What this may mean for work.
Performance design improves when it targets a real mechanism. Instead of performing phone exile as a ritual, identify what actually interrupts your work and shape that behavior or environment directly.

Find the real trigger
Keep your phone nearby for three blocks and in another room for three, while disabling nonessential alerts in both conditions. Record every unplanned check and why it happened. If proximity changes nothing, focus on alerts, expectations, or access friction instead.
Where the claim stops.
- The analysis only tests mere presence, a narrow exposure.
- The included studies use varied cognitive tasks and phone conditions.
- A null average effect does not rule out meaningful effects for particular people or contexts.
