    The review found improvements in executive attention, working-memory accuracy, inhibition, shifting, and sustained attention. It did not find gains in processing speed.

    The practice matters

    Face-to-face delivery and some higher-need groups showed stronger effects. A generic claim that any meditation app will improve cognition would reach beyond the evidence.

    Small effects can be useful

    For work involving careful reading, review, or judgment, a modest accuracy improvement may be more relevant than a promise of feeling faster.

Take five minutes before one focused block to sit quietly and return attention to the breath whenever it wanders. During the block, make a simple tally of deliberate returns from distraction; compare error notes from the same type of work before and after the experiment.
